Gift Giving With A Purpose . . . .
Shopping for gifts can be stressful even for those of us that believe that giving is truly better than receiving. To make it a bit easier, I try to shop local businesses as much as possible, but when I’m really stumped over the perfect gift, I find myself drawn toward those gifts that pay it forward.
For example, Real Simple puts together an annual list of gifts that either donate a portion of profits or offer a buy one/donate one option, and every year, I look forward to reviewing what creative ideas people have submitted.
This year for the tween / teen girls in my life, I purchased (spoiler alert) a couple of the Kiss & Care trio kits of Kiehl’s lip balm. In return, Kiehl’s donates meals to the Feeding America project.
Another popular items which I may (or maybe not) have also purchased are beanies from Love Your Melon. If you’re like me (or have kids like mine), I feel like you can never have too many hats. And knowing that 50% of all profits are donated to cancer-fighting nonprofits? Well, that doesn’t take any effort from your melon at all. The beanies are available with or without the pom – tons of different colors are available as are wraps, scarves, blankets, etc.
Of course, these are just two ideas – there are many more options out there if you look. Simply do a quick search on “gifts that give back” and you’ll be inundated with ideas.
One other no-fail gift idea: a simple book. There’s a million lists of those too, but I thought this one from Real Simple had some great options on it. Happy shopping!
