Needham is an interesting and varied town that has something for everyone. There are some secluded estates along the Charles River, areas of grand homes, and charming, old-fashioned neighborhoods. Wellesley was actually once part of Needham and separated in 1881.
Needham has a very bustling downtown, with many shops and restaurants as well as a local branch of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. There is an outdoor public swimming pool built into Rosemary Lake, and many parks, playgrounds and ball fields which offer exceptional family recreation.
The Needham public schools are considered among some of the best in the area. There are many opportunities for students to enjoy sports of all kinds. Needham High School’s annual Thanksgiving Day football game against Wellesley High School began in 1905 and is the oldest continuous rivalry of its kind in the country.
The Franlin W. Olin College of Engineering which is located in Needham opened its 70 acre site in 2002.
Needham offers an excellent commute to Boston (there are three stops along the commuter rail which stops both in Boston’s Back Bay and South Station) as well as locations along Routes 128 and 95.
